We did it!
We actually arrived in Texas a week ago today. I immediately got sick. And, getting sick in a new town with no established doctor means calling around and getting told that they will see you in May. Humm, no that was not going to work. We headed over to the Emergency Room and got to hang out the for most of our first night home. It was exactly what we both wanted to be doing. The good thing about going to the ER is instead of just giving you a prescription that you have to wait until the next day to fill they will give you a big fat shot of antibiotics in the hind quarters to give you a head start. I am feeling much better now.
I am slowly unpacking and cleaning and organizing and trying to figure out what to do with closets that are about the same size as my entire San Francisco apartment. It is a lot of work, but we also feel so blessed to have so many nice to things to fill our home with.
The wedding was amazing. The whole time my friend Andrea was doing my hair and make up she kept asking me if I was excited/nervous/insert emotion here. I was, I just felt incredibly calm. When James and I got in the car to drive down to the temple I looked at him and it hit me what we were about to do. That is when all of those emotions rolled on in. We loved how small and simple our ceremony was. It was so nice to have the important people in our lives surrounding us without all of the extra stuff you see at other weddings. We definitely felt loved.
Our reception was beautiful. My dad spent the whole day before standing on a ladder making things look pretty. I am sure he paid for it for a week in back pain. The flowers were way better than I ever could have imagined. And my mom and I learned that estimating food quantities is a difficult thing to do. They ate fruit and veges for weeks afterwards!
I am still waiting for pictures from my photographer. When I get them I will share. She was the biggest expense but worth every penny. We did most of the pictures of just the two of us on the Thursday before the wedding. We went to the temple, where we got married, and then over to the Santa Monica Pier for the sunset. If you want to draw attention to yourself you should go to a major tourist attraction in a wedding dress with a photographer. At one point we were standing on the sand right near the pier taking some pictures and I looked up at the pier to see railings lined with people hanging over watching and taking pictures of us. Yeah, that was a little embarrassing, but I saw a couple of pictures from the shoot so I really don’ t care who was watching. They were incredible.
We really enjoyed our honeymoon cruise. It was a great way to do a honeymoon. Mexico was lots of fun and it really helped to have a husband who speaks Spanish to talk to the cab drivers. I will also start posting some of those pictures too.
Hooray! You’re married! I’m glad to see everything went well and I can’t wait to read more.
I can’t wait to see pictures of your honeymoon in Mexico! LOVED the picture you sent me of Thrifty’s! Oh, does that bring back memories of all those ice cream cones—YUM! Glad to hear you are feeling better :o)
